Excursion to Kos
This excursion is departing from Rhodes
Town (Mandraki) around 08:00 am and returning at 06:00 pm.
KOS ISLAND
Kos is one of the most beautiful and sunniest islands of the
Aegean Sea. It lies at the south eastern point of the Aegean Sea
and is the third in
extent island of the Dodecanese (meaning twelve in Greek)
Islands. Its richness in historic monuments, its beautiful
weather virtually all year round, its sanded beaches accompanied
by its crystal clear water are some of the facts responsible for
attracting so many tourists each year.
Kos town is the capital of the island. It combines historic
monuments with a modern planning of broad streets bordered with
trees, big squares, and houses with gardens. Throughout the town
you will find an abundance of trees, bushes and flowers: fir,
pine tree, cypress, eucalyptus, oak, jasmine, lilac, acacia and
hibiscus. Take a stroll on the rock paved streets of the old
town where you will find numerous tourist shops or maybe lie on
the sandy beaches under the sun.
The Asclepieion of Kos
When referring to Asclepeia we mean the
sacred hospitals where the methods of Asclepius were applied for
the treatment of the ill. The Asclepieion of Kos was the best
and most famous of its time, to which many students of medicine
and patients from all over the world visited. It is located
three kilometers from the modern capital of the island, Kos
town.
Hippocrates Plant Tree
It is believed that
this tree, located in Kos town, was planted by
Hippocrates,
the father of medicine, more than 2.400 years ago. It was one of
the locations Hippocrates favored to teach medicine to his
students.
