KOS ISLAND

Kos is one of the most beautiful and sunniest islands of the Aegean Sea. It lies at the south eastern point of the Aegean Sea and is the third in extent island of the Dodecanese (meaning twelve in Greek) Islands. Its richness in historic monuments, its beautiful weather virtually all year round, its sanded beaches accompanied by its crystal clear water are some of the facts responsible for attracting so many tourists each year.
Kos town is the capital of the island. It combines historic monuments with a modern planning of broad streets bordered with trees, big squares, and houses with gardens. Throughout the town you will find an abundance of trees, bushes and flowers: fir, pine tree, cypress, eucalyptus, oak, jasmine, lilac, acacia and hibiscus. Take a stroll on the rock paved streets of the old town where you will find numerous tourist shops or maybe lie on the sandy beaches under the sun.

 

The Asclepieion of Kos

When referring to Asclepeia we mean the sacred hospitals where the methods of Asclepius were applied for the treatment of the ill. The Asclepieion of Kos was the best and most famous of its time, to which many students of medicine and patients from all over the world visited. It is located three kilometers from the modern capital of the island, Kos town.

Hippocrates Plant Tree

It is believed that this tree, located in Kos town, was planted by Hippocrates, the father of medicine, more than 2.400 years ago. It was one of the locations Hippocrates favored to teach medicine to his students.
